The Experience
Stockport Wedding Photography by David Laslett
David always meets his couples before the Big Day so they feel relaxed and confident in his ability to achieve the best images for them. He visits the venues well in advance in order to familiarise himself with photo opportunities available and also to introduce himself to the venue staff. Following this preparation, you will be sent a personalised document containing a detailed breakdown of the day including contact details, a timeline of the day, image requirements etc.
You can choose from several Wedding Photography packages, ranging from just the Ceremony with some formal shots afterwards, to a Full Day Package, where David arrives to photograph the Bride and Groom’s preparations and continue to shoot right through until later in the proceedings/evening. Engagement / celebration shoots are also available, either based in the studio or your favourite location.
On The Day
David aims to capture spontaneous candid images throughout your special day, including focusing on those little details you have spent so long selecting such as table details, rings & flowers. David has shot weddings in a variety of styles, be it contemporary, reportage, traditional or formal and will include a selection of shots in whichever stryle you like.

After the Event
David considers it a huge privilege whenever asked to photograph a wedding or civil partnership, and he processes each image individually himself to realise its full potential using the latest image editing software. At your viewing, you can enjoy a slideshow of the best of your images included in your package, and will be invited to decide on a range of additional options including photo albums and hand crafted framed prints, canvases etc.
Remember – whichever package you choose our service is exceptional, before, during and after your day.

What should I expect at the portrait photography photoshoot?
You can expect to have lots of fun at the portrait photoshoot! As a ‘people person’ first and foremost, it’s David’s easygoing manner & ability to help his clients relax in front of the camera that brings people back for more pictures time after time.
Stunning Family Photography - Stockport
Traditional, family group shots are catered for of course… but what our clients usually like is the more natural, relaxed and candid kind of photography portraits that David is known for.
Whilst normally working in the portrait photography studio, David can shoot in your own home, or on location if you prefer. Maybe there is a park or place that is special to you. Either way, you can be sure that David will capture images that you can enjoy for a lifetime.
What should I bring to my portrait photography photoshoot?
Many clients bring several changes of clothes, CDs or an MP3 player (it’s always nice to have music during the shoot), toys for the little ones, hats, musical instruments, pets… the important thing is to bring items that are special to you. It’s your story that we will be telling with the pictures after all!
Pets are members of the family of course so just give David a call if you’d like to include them.
After the portrait photography photoshoot…
David will select the very best images from your shoot and then undergo preliminary work such as exposure checking, blemish removal & colour correction before preparing a slideshow for you to view on a large screen in private in our viewing room.
Stockport Child Portrait Photography
During your viewing, you will be able to select your favourite photography from the shoot and choose from the extensive range of products available to display them. Remember, David always sends you the photography pricelist before your shoot so you know how much the photography products cost up front. David uses a local framer who hand-makes your frames, canvasses and box frames to order. As well as the usual canvasses etc., photography DVDs and image CDs are also available in a variety of formats. We can even make pop art from your images! If you have something special in mind, just ask!
Clients often ask David if friends and family will be able to view the photography, and the answer is “of course”. There is a password-protected client area on this website. About a week after you’ve had your viewing, David makes a number of your images available in this client area and will give you the required username and password.
Great day today (but busy). Had a very productive meeting for commercial photography with one of the biggest office supplies companies in the UK. These are based in the Greater Manchester area and will hopefully be using me as a Commercial Photography on Commercial Photography (funnily enough) projects in and around Stockport.
Now, where's the sun?
I am being asked to undertake more and more commercial photography, and althought it is different to, say, Wedding photography or Portrait photography, it is nonetheless very interesting. This month I have photographed Macaroons, Sunglasses, Cat Collars, Furniture and Lamps.
I have been onsite in schools, factories, offices and even a swimming pool.

Well, today was Isabelle the Mannequin’s first day at work, so here are a few photographs of the shoot. This is a job for a local clothing designer and the photographs will be used both for print and on the website. Clothing product photography always brings its own challenges (which I relish, naturally!)… it’s always a challenge to know how to arrange creases etc.! The Client has asked for post-processing to be done to remove the mannequin from the shot. In Commericial Photography parlance (for those of you who do not already know of course), these are called ‘cutouts’.
Isabelle is Invisible. A new tongue-twister?
There is a big difference of course between fashion photography on a catwalk and studio product / clothing photography. Each have their pros and cons. For example, when dealing with real live walking talking breathing models advantages are that they can take instruction, have a full range of movement, are autonomous…. disadvantages include the fact that they are a ‘moving target’, you have less time to compose the picture, and you have less control of lighting.
Studio advantages include, well, pretty much the opposite… plenty of time to compose the shot, full control of lighting, no real rush (barring deadlines of course!)….. disadvantages being the rigid limbs and limited poses afforded by the mannequin. That said, I enjoy both immensely. I was recently asked to photograph “The People’s Catwalk” at The Trafford Centre in Manchester for The Prince’s Trust, which was very enjoyable. It was hosted by the designer Jeff Banks (who sent me a nice letter afterwards which can be seen here).

Well, we had a new employee start at David Laslett photography today. Her name is Isabel and she comes from Germany. She is also made of Acrylic and arrived by post
Isabel, from Germany.
In light of recent contracts won, I thought it was high time I invested in a new Mannequin. Not something I have ever bought before, but she is now assembled and standing in the corner of the studio, next to the product table and the Guitars, and ready to start work.
Isabel’s first job will be to model clothing. This is a Commercial Photography job for a local clothes designer. Images will be processed in photoshop for use on the web, and in printed catalogues, so cutouts will be produced for these, removing Isabel from the pics entirely (sorry, Isabel, nothing personal!). By the way, she ARRIVED from the manufacturer with the name Isabel, so please don’t think I’m getting kooky in my own age and naming my props!
Today also saw several other enquiries from local businesses – both for commercial photography and Web Design, which sounds promising. Also 2 bookings for Wedding Photography today – one for 2011 and one for 2012, so that’s nice! You can check out my latest wedding photographs on the website.
On a more personal note, this week saw the anniversary of the passing of a very dear friend of mine, Jeannie Saxe. Earlier in my career it was Jean who offered me the job at the tour operator First Choice (where I spent 10 years), advancing my career significantly. Jean was a mentor and a great friend and gave me the opportunity to work in Web Design and fulfil my creative ambitions. It is fair to say that without Jean’s help I would not be where I am today. Thanks Jeannie.
